Innovative Financing for Peace: towards a framework for peace-positive investments

On 20 October 2022 the German Federal Foreign Office and the UN Peacebuilding Support Office convened around 80 participants, onsite in Berlin and online, to discuss practices and approaches that could underpin a peace-positive investment framework.

Participants came from foreign ministries and permanent missions, development finance institutions, non-governmental organisations, universities and private investment funds. The meeting was held under Chatham House rules.

Three next steps were highlighted. First, continued development of a framework for peace-positive investment through broad collaboration between the UN, governments, development finance institutions and civil society, with the African Development Bank offering to host a follow-on discussion at the 2023 Africa Resilience Forum. Second, further work with stakeholders to test a draft peace impact framework, develop impact metrics and support a community of practice. Third, allocation of German funding, in collaboration with the UN, to explore launching a specialised peace finance vehicle.
