The platform
A pioneering investment platform
I4P is an investment platform that brings together governments, the UN, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), impact investors and civil society behind peace-positive and commercially disciplined investment in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
It is backed by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), the UN Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). In 2026, the African Development Bank and the Government of South Africa joined them to form I4P’s Donor Advisory Committee.
The platform leads the way by pioneering a new approach to fragile-state investment.
Why fragile and conflict-affected settings
Where engagement matters most
I4P focuses on fragile and conflict-affected settings because that is where half the world’s extreme poor live — rising to nearly 60 percent by 2030. Engagement there also aligns with broader political priorities by:
- Addressing root drivers of migration and insecurity
- Maintaining a presence where geopolitical competition is increasing
- Increasing resilience in zones of acute climate stress
- Providing a values-based alternative to extractive influence models
In fragile markets, absence creates a vacuum. I4P enables disciplined engagement.

Our role in the investment ecosystem
What I4P does
I4P amplifies the role local private enterprises can play in mitigating conflict. It functions as:
An enabler of international investment
Using blended finance to reduce financial risks.
A pipeline generator
For co-investment and future direct DFI deployment.
A peace-impact pioneer
Moving beyond conflict sensitivity to measure, verify and demonstrate peace-positive outcomes.
A local intelligence partner
In complex operating environments.
A market-building platform
In frontier geographies.

Investing in I4P helps transform fragile markets into future investment destinations
I4P is one instrument among many for building peace — the economic one. It contributes to the conditions for peace; it does not claim to deliver it. We work with DFIs, impact investors, governments and foundations on co-investment, pipeline and partnership.
