The Munich Security Conference brought more than 900 participants to the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in February, with public panels and discussions on the latest developments in foreign and security policy.
Under the title “Unlocking Private Sector Investments in Peace”, Deike Potzel, Head of Department S for Crisis Prevention, Stabilization, Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Assistance at the German Federal Foreign Office, joined discussions at the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt Pavilion on how peace can be fostered through strategic investment.
The discussion centred on Germany’s EUR 12 million start-up funding for a new private sector investment institution, designed to generate positive externalities that promote peace in fragile settings. Well-conceived private and public investment can mitigate conflict in crisis contexts and stabilise post-conflict peace orders. The Investing for Peace Initiative, spearheaded with UN Peacebuilding and UNCDF, aims to catalyse such peace-promoting investment.
